Carlos Condit on his strategy of emotionally disconnecting vs Nick Diaz

Carlos Condit is a special fighter physically but also mentally. He has an intense and fierce fire in his gut which has catapulted him to the top of the UFC's welterweight class. But in perfect harmony with that intensity is a balance of mind and intelligence. He took the wisdom which his coach Greg Jackson had for his fight against Nick Diaz, and decided to emotionally disconnect from the taunts, trash talking, and other histrionics which Diaz executes in the cage in order to disrupt the mind of his opponents, and consequently throw them off their game. Condit took verbal abuse and got slapped in the face in a show of disrespect by Diaz in order to kick Condit out of the zone during their competition. Condit masterfully did not lose his cool in that situation, stuck to the game plan, and found a way to win that fight via decision and become the UFC interim welterweight champion of the world. Condit describes this process two minutes into the above video.
